Confidence your way!

Confidence through Style

Do you know people who are lacking in confidence? Would you like to improve your own confidence?

The feeling of confidence can be an elusive one… confidence means different things to different people. I can have confidence in my friends which means I trust them. If a document or medical information is confidential then only trusted people are allowed to see it.

When we say a person has confidence we think they exude some magical quality or other that allows them to stand up and be seen without fear. But I believe that magical quality is trust in themselves and THAT is something that can be developed.

Thinking of confidence as trust in yourself might seem a too easy or maybe too hard. It does make you think though… if confidence is simply trusting yourself then there may be a way to develop that trust.

Now don’t mistake confidence for dutch courage or bravado – though you will appear confident unfortunately when the pardon the term – “shit hits the fan” then you fall apart!

I’ve been there in the bravado stage myself. I didn’t realize it though 🙂 and since I’m rebuilt my true self-confidence I’ve figured out one of the biggest steps to confidence.

Know you are not alone

Everyone is unique and has their own take on things.

Now, for a long time I believed that my nearest and dearest should understand me and support me doing all the unique things I do like singing jazz music and chanting when I meditate 🙂 The problem was, they really didn’t understand and though they supported me from time to time, it wasn’t consistent.

So, I had to find a new clan of people who so understand. To find them I had to be brave. I had to own my heart’s desires. Instead of saying “I do some singing” – I would say “I’m a jazz singer and I’m hoping to sing more for events”.

When I do workshops I manage to get a group together with something in common – that could be a love of style or even singing (my other speciality). Maybe you could come to a workshop or sign up for a class in anything you would love – pottery or painting, horse-riding or creative writing. Go! Meet new people and find your clan for all the things you love to do.

There are people just like you who have a similar take on life or music or even spirituality. Once you find those people your confidence will soar! You are not alone!

Caroline Nolan, Herbalist

Caroline Nolan came for a Style Consultation before revamping her website. Style for Women in Business helps you attract the right clients by ensuring your image represents the values and selling points of your business.

Aideen: I’m here with Caroline Nolan who is a herbalist. We worked together lately to spruce up Caroline’s image and to help her with her direction with her brand for her business. What you wear can have a big impact on how you are perceived by your clients and things like that. So, Caroline understood that. One thing I want to ask you is why did you want to come and see me now, what was the difference, what was the problem?

Caroline: I’m just getting back working after having three kids. When it came to what do I wear, what do I even like anymore I just had no idea what suits me, my body shape has changed, I don’t even know what colors or what fabrics or anything. It’s like I just needed a kick-start. That’s why I came to you Aideen. And what a fantastic job you’ve done.

Aideen: What was the main thing that clicked into place for you after meeting for your consultation at home?

Caroline: The main thing was, the colours that came up in our consultation were colours that I know that suit me. It just got me when I have been looking and shopping since, it really helped me trust my instinct and what I already knew came back to me. I was reminded really well. It gave me just a bit more confidence really in going and to get in the clothes that we discussed, the kind of clothes, the kind of shapes. Yeah, it’s like I’m a new woman.

Aideen: Fantastic. We’ve just met up there because we’ve been at your photo shoot for your website. How did that go for you?

Caroline: It was much less scary than I thought it would be. I was very glad to have went with your guidance really. I picked the colours and the fabrics that reflected what I want to communicate now. I’ll have all that done before going for that photo shoot.

Aideen: Fantastic.

Caroline: It was really good timing.

Aideen: What’s next for you Caroline?

Caroline: What’s next for me is, well you can follow me at www.herbsandhealing.ie to see what’s next Aideen.

Aideen: Wow, fantastic. Thanks Caroline

Caroline: Thank you very much.

Smirk Blue Dress Aideen

Each person’s self-expression is completely unique and special – mine includes singing jazz music and chanting as I meditate… that’s just me! 🙂

Confident Self-Expression

When I was about 12 years old I came across my mothers Colour Me Beautiful book and from then on I hoped to become an image consultant and help people find the colours that suited them. I already had an eye for colour and I knew that my school uniform, with it’s royal blue sweater, looked quite good on me. I even wore it during my summer holidays sometimes! Weird, I know! The only fashion influences on me during my childhood were from the TV and I was fascinated by films like Flashdance, Dirty Dancing and Pretty in Pink. You can see how those movies influenced some of my favourite looks from way back then by clicking here.

So, many years later I got my chance to train with a wonderful Image Consultant, Joan Cashman, who is an award winning stylist based in Cork. Then, I was lucky enough to work in the Colour Me Beautiful head office in Dublin with Melanie Power for four years doing Colour, Style and Personal Shopping. I loved my time working as a Colour Me Beautiful Consultant, I feel blessed to have worked with the best in the business for many years and really appreciated all their guidance and support and I take all that experience with me into my own image consulting.

Mind you for me it’s not about creating an image – it’s about boosting your confidence and expressing the real you through style! If that’s something you would like then get in touch with me 🙂

Too much black in my wardrobe!

February 18, 2016

Michelle Fletcher“I enjoyed every minute of the Personal Style Coaching with Aideen.  The hardest part was to not sort my wardrobe before Aideen came to my house for Step 1 (consultation) of a very interesting, fun and changing process.  She really took time to get to know me as a person, my likes and dislikes and coached me in a gentle but no messing approach – apparently I have too much black in my wardrobe!  I was dreading Step 2 (a shopping trip) as I am not a natural shopper and generally don’t do the trying things on. But we had a fantastic time and I learnt so much and have even bought some non-black clothes since. I couldn’t recommend Aideen high enough and wish her huge success with her business.”  Michelle Fletcher – Business Owner (Social Singles, Wexford) & single mum to 2 girls

Are you wearing clothes that don’t work for you?

Do you feel like your clothes don’t represent the real you but don’t know what will?

There are times in all our lives when the goal posts change and we have to re-think how we present ourselves in life. It could be when you start a new job or business or maybe you have lost weight and are dressing a whole new body shape.

Re-invention is exciting but if you want to avoid wasting money on clothes that don’t work for you then do some soul-searching before you start. You’ll need to consider your personality, your body shape and your lifestyle! Here are my top tips for figuring it out…

What is your Soul Style?

Ask yourself what kinds of clothes you really love to wear. Is there a trend that you feel more comfortable in? Maybe you like Boho-style with fringing and feathers or Vintage-style with lace and pearls. I’m not suggesting that you dress head to toe in one trend but know what you like so you can add accessories that are really “you”.

What suits your body-shape?

We each have the body we have right now. One person might wish for bigger boobs and another wants to be skinnier. The fact is everyone has bits they like and don’t like. So, let’s work with what you have got. You don’t need to change anything to look well. There are ways to make your shoulders look narrower and your thighs look slimmer. There are ways to look a bit more curvy or look slimmer.

Patterns, detailing and texture draw attention so, draw it to the right places!

Enhance your curves by adding pockets over the hips or a seam under the bust-line

Slim your thighs by using smooth fabrics and avoiding pattern below the waist

Use detail at the neckline to draw attention to your face and away from wider shoulders

What is appropriate for your life-style right now?

Think about what your day to day life and what you need before shopping for new clothes. If you work in a very warm environment like a play-school you’ll need different looks that someone on the road working in sales. What you do spend most of your day doing? What kind of impression would you like to make? What are you hoping to attract into your life this year? Are you going on dates or interviews? Can one new item of clothing transform your look? What would it be?

Add a smart collar-less jacket to your look if you are driving a lot. It will look great and be easy to get in and out of

Add tops with a little bit of detail at the neckline like a ruffle or beading if you work in a warm workplace – no need to accessorize then! Just get up and go!

Going to lots of weddings this year then invest in luxurious looking coat to go over your dresses in faux-fur or maybe a pale colour

How to boost your creativity with Danielle Serpico

How many of you have a hidden talent or passion that you haven’t expressed in a long time??

For me, I always wanted to sing but thought deep down that it wasn’t possible or practical so I didn’t pursue it all for long periods of time. Deep inside I felt it. It was like a hole in my heart and a pain that I couldn’t face. It took me a long time and a lot of soul-searching to finally change my own mindset so that I could really go for it and I’m gigging regularly now.

So, when I heard Danielle Serpico’s story it really struck a chord with me… she spoke at a conference that I was speaking at and explained how she rediscovered her art almost 20 years after going into the restaurant business after attending art college. Danielle is a life and mind coach now and she has written a book called The Blackbelt Mastermind that explains how to have a fighter mindset in life.

I love Danielle’s story  – it is pure inspiration! In my interview you will find out more about Danielle’s journey plus her top tips on how to use visualisation techniques to get your mind working FOR your own creativity instead of against it.
